Edward Weston was an American photographer born on March 24th 1886 in Highland Park, Illinois. He moved to California and became an itinerant photographer until he realized he needed more formal training and moved back to Illinois to go to Illinois College of Photography in 1908. Once settled back in California years later, Weston opened up his own portrait studio, where he did most of his work which was to be described as soft-focus, pictorial style images mostly working with high key portraits and modern dance studies. In 1922, Weston emphasized his Pictorialism style with abstract form and sharper resolution of detail. By 1926, he created his most famous works of natural forms, close-ups, nudes and landscapes. His close ups were of seashells, peppers and cabbage leaves. The black and white images brought out the rich textures in the shapes. Edward Weston died on January 1, 1958 in California at the age of 72.
